RT 470: Recreational Therapy Program Design and Implementation
In this course, I gained a deeper understanding of the role of recreational therapy in various settings along with learning about the many different practice models and how they guide CTRS’s in their practice. I learned how to create program plans and implement RT services to clients as groups and individuals. Skills worked on include the creation and implementation of RT program plans, task analysis, facilitation techniques, and a large emphasis on writing goals and objectives. Projects in this course included 2 group program plans, 2 1:1 program plans, developing a personal RT philosophy, writing progress notes, and writing a case study about an assigned resident.
This course helped me to better understand the true purpose of recreational therapy and the impact it has on those that participate. Being assigned to two residents helped me realize how important it is to take a client centered approach and use their strengths to help them reach their goals. The service learning experience helped me gain confidence in my ability to develop and lead RT programs as well as building connections with those I work with. I also gained experience working with older adults in an RT. This has helped prepare me for my senior internship, which will be in a similar setting.
The attached assignment is my RT Personal Philosophy. This assignment helped me to conceptualize my beliefs about what RT is and how I plan to implement RT services in the future based off the various service delivery models that were taught in this course.
