RT 460: Administration of Recreational Therapy Services
In this course, we focused on​ gaining the knowledge needed to manage Recreational Therapy staff and provide Recreational Therapy services. This included the reimbursement of services, staff development, and effective marketing of services. We also focused on building an understanding of clinical supervision, the Recreational Therapy models of delivery, and the healthcare environment. Through this course, we developed skills related to managing volunteers and Recreational Therapy student interns, working in and with higher management in health and human services, and promotional strategies for programs. The projects worked on in this course include the development of a Recreational Therapy Department Plan, the creation of a Comprehensive Strategic Marketing Plan, the creation of a Recreational Therapy Departmental Budget, and participation in a Recreational Therapy Management Panel with Recreational Therapy practitioners. ​The work completed in this class has helped me to recognize the importance of having individuals in management positions that not only have the knowledge and skills to provide quality management, but also enjoy the work they are doing. I also learned more about the positive impact recreational therapy has on the individuals who receive this service.​

The purpose of the Strategic Marketing Plan assignment was for us to practice marketing RT programs and implementing promotional strategies. It also helped us better understand the importance of advocating for therapeutic recreation services.
