PRTS 285: Diversity in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism

In PRTS 285, I studied how recreation and tourism services are delivered to diverse populations. This course had a focus on understanding the needs of people from various ethnic/racial groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, ages, and other cultural factors that can influence service delivery. It helped me explore the importance of equity and inclusion in leisure services.

Throughout this course, I practiced critical thinking, cultural awareness, and effective communication skills. These are all important skills in analyzing how systemic barriers impact access to services and in developing strategies to create more inclusive recreation environments.

The attached assignment is the report I wrote after conducting a diversity interview with my work supervisor who is from Thailand about her cultural background and professional experiences. Conducting the interview strengthed my ability to engage in culturally responsive conversations and increased my understanding of how cultural identity influences both personal and professional interactions. This report highlights key insights from the interview and reflects on how they relate to service delivery. It demonstrates my ability to synthesize information and apply it to professional practice.
