RT 480W: Evidence-Based Practice and Trends in Recreational Therapy
In this course, I learned how to identify and describe the concepts and processes that are used in disciplinary writing in the field of Therapeutic Recreation. I also learned how appraise data sources and incorporate them into my writing. Skills I worked on include research evaluation, professional writing, and the application of the Evidence Based Practice steps. In this class, I wrote RT elevator pitches, created a conference session proposal, and wrote a literature review based on a research question I created. This course enhanced my confidence in understanding and applying evidence-based practices in recreational therapy. It also increased my ability to write professionally, and allowed me to form a deeper appreciation for the role of research in improving client care and advancing the field of RT.

The attached document is the Conference Session Proposal I created to be presented at the ODU RT Symposium in April 2025. My conference session proposal is focused on the use of adapted boxing as an RT intervention. I discuss the benefits of using boxing as an intervention and the ways in which CTRS's can include a boxing intervention in their practices. This assignment will help prepare me for the creation of conference session proposals if I choose to present on a topic in the future at a conference.
